Hiking The Appalachian Trail
The Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail marks the beginning (or end) of one of the world's longest foot trails. With a staggering 2,186 miles in length, the AT traverses 14 states ultimately stretching from Georgia to Maine. The AT intersects several different popular trails. In Georgia, the AT also intersects another well known, but less traveled trail in Georgia, the Benton MacKaye Trail. The AT and BMT actually intersect at several different locations allowing for the possibility of an amazing loop trail. Likewise, the AT and the Bartram Trail intersect in North Carolina twice.
The AT is, without question, the most popular and most traveled trail in Georgia. The AT is popular with thru hikers, section hikers, overnight hikers, and day hikers.
For a thru or section hiker, the AT can be divided by states. Below you will find the break down of the AT by state. The states with links show states that I have started and/or finished hiking. Each link will have a description of the hike, water sources, camping sites, difficulty, pictures and more.
